Discussion 11
Hello job analysts! It's been an exceedingly long time since I sent
anything out, so I know everyone is thinking "Boy I wish Bryan would
send out another job analysis e-mail". Wish granted!
====
Two things today:
(1) We have a new member--Marisa Pereira from Industrial Relations.
Welcome Marisa! We look forward to your contributions. We now have a
total of 49 members from 30 departments!
(2) A LONG time ago (say, last year) I sent out a plea for departments
to share with the group which job analyses they have conducted. At that
time I did not receive very many responses; I assume that was because
departments were just gearing up their job analysis efforts (that's my
assumption and I'm sticking with it). Chris Gist from EDD asked me
about this issue a few months ago and we decided at that time to get the
ball rolling on this again. I think many of us are to the point where
we have information that we can share with each other.
As many of you know, a key element of a quality job analysis is the
literature search. While there are numerous sources of job analytic
data, relevant complete job analyses can difficult to locate and obtain
(with the exception of CDC, who has generously made their results
available at
http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Career_Opportunities/HR/OPS/Exams/Analysis/)
To make this sharing possible, we'd like to propose creating and
maintaining a reference list. The list will show only the essential
elements: the classification, the date completed, the department who
completed the job analysis, and contact information. This list will be
kept on the State Personnel Board web site, Test Validation and
Construction section, Job Analysis Discussion Group
(/tvc/JAdiscussionlist.htm). Once initial
information is received in response to this request, the web site will
be created and maintained by Karl Jaeger of SPB's TV&C unit.
A blank template of this reference list is attached to this e-mail
(it's in Excel but I swear it won't require an advanced course to
understand). We ask that you fill out this template, listing those
classes for which your department has completed a job analysis along
with the contact persons should someone want to ask your department to
share your job analysis results. Please e-mail your filled-in template
to me by March 12. Once the list is established on the web site, job
analysis updates can be sent directly to Karl using either the blank
template or by simply e-mailing him. Karl will then add those to the
list so as to have an ever-expanding reference list of completed job
analysis.
Participation is voluntary, of course. But the more departments who
participate, the more useful this reference list will become for all of
us as we share together the results of our job analytical labors. We
thank you in advance for your participation and cooperation.
If anyone has any job analysis-related questions or issues, don't
forget about your friends on this list! We're here to help.
