Typing Certification Tests
No Appointment Necessary
The State Personnel Board administers the Typing Test periodically, normally once a month, throughout the year. This examination is given on a first-come, first-served basis only. State Application form 678 is not required for this test. The test is an automated computerized test. The entire process takes approximately thirty (30) minutes to complete.

Each test session is limited to a maximum of 20 persons.

Checking in at the State Personnel Board:
Sign-ups begin at 8:00 A.M. Once all test times have been filled, no more individuals will be signed up for that day. Each test session is limited to a maximum of 20 persons. You must bring valid picture identification, or two forms of signed indentification, with you to the test. Follow the signs and check in at the sign-in table near the entrance of the State Personnel Board. Once you select a test time, you may leave; but please return on time for your test appointment.
Test Results:
The State Personnel Board administers a five (5) minute Typing Test. A minimum of 40 W.P.M. is required to receive a certificate. Typing certificates are issued immediately after the test by the Exam Proctor. The Typing certificate is valid for four years.
The test is ONLY given on the above available date(s) and times. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.
Acceptable Certificates:
We will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years (must be certified from a five minute typing test that meets the State Personnel Board requirements), with a minimum of 40 W.P.M., given by the following organizations:
- Any State Agency/Department (the Agency/Department that you are applying to can also give you a typing test)
- Business schools or colleges
- Adult Education Centers
- Skills and Business Education Centers
Unacceptable Certificates:
Internet Typing Certificates, Typing Certificates from Employment Agencies and Typing Certificates issued for less than a five minute typing test are not acceptable.
